Central Lombok And Tetebatu
Tetebatu
Laced with Rinjani mountain-sping-fed streams and canals, sprinkled with traditional villages and blessed with rich soil, Tetebatu is a Sasak breadbasket. The surrounding countryside is quilted with tobacco and rice fields, fruit orchards and cow pastures that fade into remnant monkey forest where you will find some fabulous waterfalls; this all makes Tetebatu ideal for long country walks.

At 400m it’s also high ebough on Rinjani’s lower slopes to mute that hot sticky coastal mercury. Dark nights come saturated with sound courtesy of a frog orchestra accompanied by countless gurgling brooks.
Activities in Tetebatu
Taman Wisata Tetebatu, heads from a shady 4km track leading from the main road, just north of the mosque, with black monkeys and waterfalls.
On the southern slopes of Taman Nasional Gunung Rinjani, there are two waterfalls. Both are accessible by private transport or a spectacular two-hour walk (one way) through rice fields from Tetebatu. A 2km walk from the car park at the end of the road, Air Terjun Jukut is still popular with locals as they believe its water will increase hair growth. Northwest of Tetebatu, Air Terjun Joben is more of a public swimming pool, so less alluring.
South of Tetebatu
The nearest market town to Tetebatu is Kotaraja, which is also the transport hub of the area. It’s known for its skilled blacksmiths, and in August, you can take in the annual Sasak stick-fighting festivities. The fights are both fierce and real, and end gracefully at the first sight of blood.
Loyok, heading south, is noted for its fine basketry and Rungkang is known for its pottery made from local black clay. You’ll find home workshops in both villages.
Masbagik is a large town on Lombok’s east west highway with a daily morning market, a huge cattle market on Monday afternoon. Masbagik Timor, 1km east, is a center for black clay pottery and ceramic production.
Lendang Nangka is a Sasak village surrounded by picturesque countryside, 3km north of the highway. In and around the village you can see blacksmiths who make knives, hoes and other tools using traditional techniques. A few silversmiths are also based here.
