Flores is one of Indonesia’s most unspoiled islands. It offers beautiful beaches and a hilly inland, perfectly suited for stunning walks. Besides that, Flores is home to several tribes, which still hold on to their traditions. Animistic practices still exist in the mountains around the Kelimutu. The Ngada villages are among the most traditional ones on Flores.

Manggarai is the most fertile area of the island, in past times the people here lived in large, round houses. Most houses had to be demolished when the Dutch entered, but hidden behind some slopes and hills there is a village that stayed perfectly preserved. Experience a world in which time stands still! During this trip you’ll also discover Rinca and the Komodo National Park, only accessible by boat. Who knows you will meet the majestic Komodo dragon!

Day 1 Labuan Bajo

On arrival in Labuan Bajo you will be transferred to a nice beachfront hotel just outside town. A great start of your holiday, you can swim, snorkel or just laze on the beach. Labuan Bajo is famous for its beautiful sunsets.

Day 2 Boat trip Rinca

In the early morning we sail to Rinca, one of the few places where the magnificent Komodo dragon lives. We stroll around the isle that offers some astonishing views. In the afternoon there will be some time left to go snorkeling by one of the other islands. Around dusk we go back to Labuan Bajo.

Day 3 Ruteng

Flores is still relatively rarely visited by tourists and you will experience how warm and friendly the people are. After this we drive on through a stunning and fertile landscape to Ruteng, capital of the Manggarai-region.

In the afternoon we leave by car for a 1 ½ hour stroll around the small villages and rice fields, of course accompanied by a local guide who will know about this area. Later on there will be time to visit the local market in Ruteng.

Day 4 Bajawa

This promises to be a beautiful ride. On the way to Bajawa you will see people working in the countryside and stop by places where the local drink Arak is made. We also visit a forest where you can observe beautiful exotic birds. In the late afternoon we will arrive at Bajawa, a little town surrounded by volcanoes, situated about 1200 meters above sea-level. Here, ancestor worshipping plays an important role in local life. Bring some warm clothes, because the nights here can be quite chilly.

Day 5 Detusoko

In the morning we leave for Bena, one of the most beautiful traditional villages around Bajawa. You walk around the village and you will be invited by friendly locals to take a look inside their homes. A local guide will come with you to explain everything about the habits and customs of the Ngada people. Afterwards we drive through a beautiful deep valley towards Moni, situated near the north coast of Flores. We will take a break to make a walk on the beach and to have lunch in a local restaurant in Ende. We reach Detusoko in the late afternoon, our starting point for a visit to the Kelimutu.

Day 6 Maumere

An early start to the Kelimutu volcano; you might have a chance to see a spectacular sunrise. It is a mysterious place where you can see three lakes constantly changing color. We continue towards Jopu, here you can see women making the famous Ikat sarongs. Of course there is a possibility to visit one of the traditional houses. We will stop at a white sandy beach for lunch. In the late afternoon we arrive in Maumere, where we will have a hotel right on the beach.

Day 7 Bali

The morning is free to spend. You can go snorkeling or just laze on the beach. Around noon you leave for the airport to catch your flight to Bali.
